History of our Council
In the early part of 1960, before the formation of the Diocese of Rockville Centre, a group of Catholic Gentlemen from the Parish of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Garden City approached Bishop Baldwin who was in residence at St .Joseph’s and asked about starting a Knights of Columbus Council there. The Bishop blessed the men and told them to “go out and do good works”
The men met at the Garden City Hotel and on June 28, 1960 the Charter was ratified. The Twelve Apostles Council # 5001 was formed and is the original Garden City Charter Our Charter bears the names of two Priests: Rev. D.S. Hamilton & Rev. T.P. O’Donnell and 112 Charter members. The Council moved to Franklin Square presumably due to growing membership from the Franklin Square area.
